Mission:
Improve Europa XS 914 FWF temperature control

Proposition:
Impliment below disiplines in an attempt to achieve "Synergistic Harmonization" (1+1=3)

* Install intercooler, may NACA air from top
* May isolate Aircleaner only to starboard NACA to free up cowl constipation on right
* Will stand off cowl on bottom shooting for 1" (could Fletner strip edge)
* Coat pipes and muffler from Vendor Rotec swears by (not at!) will drop in cowl temps
* May wrap Turbo, could wrap pipes but such a hassle to inspect
* Will have coating on aluminium radiator with supposedly 15% better thermal conductivity
* Install Mocal oil thermostat
* Drop and reshape radiator ducting, lower aim aft down and incorporate fan
* Add 2 gill fans and one radiator duct fan (folder, very high pitch speed)
* Run Evans, if slight too warm, run 50/50 with Water Wetter
* Run fan in radiator duct backwards to aid warmup on ground and in air (after soaring, lets see, soaring is maintaining, why restart? OK it is after gliding!) restart
* Run all 3 fans slow to get out heat soak when motor first shut down
* Intake for radiator lip/opening between Midget Mustang and the slick plane with 3 round cooling intake holes you see going around a pylon in magazines, position will be slight lower than factory position
* Rotax cooling air baffle
* Very important step: check guages for accuracy and calibrate if necessary
* Will incorporate ability to add cowl flap later on if deemed necessary

Hmmm, no one has ever asked us if we can say "Technocrat"??

that before I tear into a cowl, I take a spare airspeed indicator and
run the pitot hose into the engine space. While flying, make
measurements at several locations to see where the actual high and
low pressure points are, and then basing a redesign on real data to
get the air moving in the right direction!

and the old NACA archives."

Graham Singleton:
might be worth doing an oil flow test flight. Paint old engine oil on the fromnt of the cowling, fly at climb speed for a few minutes to stabilze the airflow pattern then land and take photos.
All the EZ gurus do this and they have impressive results, especially Gary Hertzler, he's my favourite guru.

H Frans,
I have a few questions. Have you tried 100% power in straight and level
flight. If so, do you get sufficient cooling ?
If you are able to get sufficient cooling at 100 or even 115% power while
flying level then you know that your radiator capacity is correct and you
have issues with the inlet at high angles of attack.
Another possibility is that air is flowing out of your NACA vents at a high
angle of attack thus reversing the direction of air flow under the cowling
while climbing. The reason this is a possibility is that the low pressure
area moves forward at higher angle of attacks.
A couple of suggestions.
1. A gentle flight around the pattern with an 'oil streak' test to see if
the diffusers are working as expected.
2. 100% level flight test to see if you have sufficient cooling capacity
3. Blocking the NACA vents and seeing if what happens in the climb.
Finally, Ron's suggestion of a spray bar is a good one, it will keep you
flying until you get this all figured out.
