JB KWIK exposed edge of balsa so we don't have to dig out and flox later. BTW AC Moore sells 6" wide Balsa 1/8" thick (they are opened till 9PM). 36" sheet does 1 side with some to spare. One of these days gotta get hands on a Geiger counter, we were told by "donor" these lead bricks that were used at particle accelerator were not "hot", but then again "donor" stopped wearing radiation badge because they were too sensitive! Kool machine, very hands on. Started with a half million volt "tandem", which was mady by Van de Graff (circa 1950s), and a linear accelerator was added. The tandem uses a 30HP motor with a big mechanical belt to generate "a lot" of static electricity. The linear part is electromagnets that are essentially a linear electric motor, using Heath Kit style power supplies. Beam is steered with electromagnets (harder to control than an "unconventional gear" trained pilot trying to control a nose heavy monowheel at gross running downwind on black ice after cold front passage with a blustery left quarter and tailwheel cables are loose).
