Notice pins have dogbone in center so they do not drag as long on way in, also allows more easily hand lapping target area to size. Also the tip hole and tip of pin is smaller than head contact area. Machined and burnished within .0001" with a .0007" to .0009" interferance fit, but this fit is after holes were sized. Sizing or burnishing holes was achieved by first running larger size pins through holes till they get stable (snuck up on size with a few very sharp reamers, mounted in special jig in Bridgeport Mill and plenty of cutting fluid). Without sizing, if you fit a pin you think is oversized on a reamed hole, there is little to no interferance fit. No wonder such problems (especial trying to do it with a hand drill)! I also added some 603 to joint, and reduced stress on joints by ~15% by adding 3 pounds of lead to lead edge of stabilators. Net weight added to craft is 2.2 pounds because of reduction in mass balance weight. Since heavy stuff up front, might as well make aft weight useful.
*NOTE* Y12-10-18 Nev made a post on Mod 73 and said make a full .007" interference fit! That was in error, should have been .0007".
