Reinforce gear tunnel front cable mount with aluminium

The heads of the fasteners the the front flap control cable mount will be at the exact location that will be occupied by the passengers (in the right seat) left knee.
Thus we want use an insert in the starboard side gear tunnel to mount with 1/4-28 flat head 100 degree MS hardware.
We will use a piece of 6061 aluminium 1/8" (or perhaps) 3/16" thick (stronger than plywood or G-10 when countersunk).
Not quite sure of the pedigree of the .090" aluminium shown in the pic, but boy is it stringy when drilling into.
We will bed the flat head screws with JB KWIK Weld that not only will take up any inaccuracy, it is intended to keep dissimilar metals from making a battery.
