Flap Upstops 6 of 7

The castle jam nut got hurt during welding and was galling the Allen screw threads.
I tried tapping, then partial re-bending the nut in my 6 jaw chuck, no good.
Then tried re-bend with screw in place with varying amount of threads showing, no good. I also tried tapping a little bit at a time the re-bent nut, no good.

I just fully sent the tap through the nut and will be using a small 3/8" across jam nut I drilled and tapped on the lathe to 1/4-28. (the original 3/8" nut in the middle of pic was tapped for 3/16" threads)

Lost the battle but won the war.
