Then JBed some thin G-10 to sides after scuff sanding all. then JBed a spacer G-10 to make pot a nice fit. This is a 1/4 watt 5 turn pot. Plenty small. Will solder wires to pot surface mount tabs then JB the pot and wires between G-10 sides.
We removed the PTT switch which happens to actually be two switches.
We are replicating this function with a DPDT relay. The PTT pin of PMA4000 will ground coil and do the same thing as your thumb pushing onto two individual switches at the same time.
We didn't have a D-sub cover with side exit, but Art did a beautiful "Applied Arcaic Technology" job with cutters and files of mutilating existing cover to allow side exit. Black plastic plug (of course it needed modification) now fills aft exit hole.
