05 Fitting the new tank

The new tank doesn't just drop into the big hole. It doesn't fit. It is too wide to go between the door sills. I chose to make a cutout in the passenger door sill to allow the tank to go in. In addition, one of the forward supports and the aileron tie rod were in the way and had to be removed to allow the tank to go in.

But there's no way to get it in. It is too wide to go between the door sills.

In addition, the aileron tie rod between the sticks is in the way and will have to come out.

Finally, that fore-aft support piece is also in the way and will have to come out.

You also have to make sure you clear all the cables, plumbing and wiring in the "tunnel" area.

Here you see that the fuel outlets won't go past the pitch connection rod between the sticks. And this can not be removed to be replaced at a later date. The outlets have to be trimmed back by about 1/4 in (6.4 mm).
